It is one of the few things that man
is utterly unable to imagine
until he comes in actual contact with it.

Your dream is to explore the Grand Canyon that was.
Your partner is High Sonoran Adventures.

There’s still a silent, massive and mystical Grand Canyon that few visitors today ever experience. It’s the one you dream of exploring. The one you want to study, search and immerse yourself in -- oblivious to crowds or schedules of any kind.

High Sonoran Adventures understands this. It’s the reason we created our popular
Grand Canyon Overnight Sampler Tours
one-to three-day mini-escapes geared especially to lighthearted hikers and mountain bikers. The Sampler Tours are scheduled during June, July and August along the Grand Canyon’s South Rim. Short enough to be convenient, the tours also are simple enough that each participant is able to connect with this mile-deep, ancient Wonder of the World on a personal level. Costs average $160 per person per day and include permits, food, guide services and equipment.

Which Grand Canyon Tour is Right for You?

How long do you have? If you want to hike to the Colorado River and back, plan  on spending a minimum of three days.
When can you go? From May to October, temperatures on the floor of the Canyon can reach 100 degrees F (38C) with little shade. HSA spends summers at pine-cooled camps on the Rim, with short treks into the Canyon only in the morning. Fall through spring is when we go below the Rim.
What shape are you in? We can design a tour for any ability. Backpacking into the Canyon requires carrying a 30- to 40-pound pack at least seven miles each way – plus a mile down and up in elevation. But if your prefer hiking pack-free, we can use mules to transport your gear.
How deep are your pockets? Costs range from $75 per person per day for day hiking and biking trips up to $150 per person per day for Custom Tours.
How can we help? High Sonoran Adventures wants your Grand Canyon Experience to be memories for a lifetime. We can assist you with complete Arizona Wild West Getaway Packages, Airport pickups, lodging, Grand Canyon Railway and other tours anywhere in Arizona.

Rim With a View

You don’t have to be a hard-core hiker or mountain biker to go behind-the-scenes at the Grand Canyon. High Sonoran Adventures makes it easy for carefree explorers to discover all the hidden pleasures of this geologic phenomenon and every chapter of its awe-inspiring story.
Especially in summer -- when the Canyon floor cooks at temperatures near the 100-degree mark -- our Sampler Tours hug the South Rim, away from the crowds and the heat. We offer hiking and biking where it’s cooler and completely remote, with guaranteed peace and quiet, for a Grand Canyon experience that is compelling.
Better yet, you set your own pace. Every day, you choose from a variety of activities or decide simply to stay at our remote base camp right on the South Rim. With no more than 12 to a group, High Sonoran Adventures can keep its Sampler Tours small and customized.

Here are just a few of the activities available:

  •  Observing elk, wild turkeys and coyotes come to a tranquil pond at sunset
  • Relaxing at a remote base camp right on the edge of the South Rim
  • Enjoying mountain biking on thrilling single-track trails or peaceful back roads
  • Viewing and photographing private Grand Canyon panoramas
  • Hiking ancient Indian trails below the Canyon rim
  • Learning the intricacies of photography, natural sciences and human history in this amazing outdoor classroom

Depending on your time frame and abilities, High Sonoran Adventures also provides two additional Grand Canyon outdoor experiences:
Day Hiking & Biking Tours : During summer months, we offer unhurried, interpretive day hikes and mountain bike rides every day at the Canyon’s South Rim. Individual participants set the pace and create their own adventure while pedaling quiet, wooded trails on sturdy Specialized mountain bikes that we provide. Leaving the shady forest cover, we take in magnificent South Rim vistas. Then it’s back to the Grand Canyon Village via a breezy, downhill cruise. Away from noisy crowds and car fumes, our experienced guides will assist you in feeling at ease, whatever your abilities. This tour can be adapted for experienced riders or can be a relaxing ride for families. Or try one of our fully guided wilderness day hikes. HSA guides will bring the early explorers, inhabitants and even the plants and rocks alive for you and provide an understanding of the living Grand Canyon. Cost of either a day hiking or biking tour is $75 per person and includes all necessary equipment.

Multi-Day Hikes : fall, winter and spring are the seasons to head into the Canyon – and avoid the summer’s searing heat. Our favorite multi-day backpacking treks are Clear Creek, Hermit and Bass. All three offer several side hikes, crystal-clear streams, spectacular side canyons and at least one night on the famous Colorado River. The maximum group size is six persons for multi-day hikes. HSA multi-day hikes are prearranged custom tours to allow our guests to help design their tour. Cost of multi-day hikes average $150 per person per day.

Corporate Retreats : We love groups!

High Sonoran provides all the expertise, coordination and equipment necessary for successful corporate retreats, meetings & team building Guided canyon hikes, woodlands biking, and educational programs including Grand Canyon history, photography, archeology, geology, botany and wildlife studies are available.

Grand Canyon National Park Bulletin
"Hiking in the Grand Canyon during the summer months presents unique hazards, the result of extreme heat and some of the steepest and most rugged terrain on Earth. Every year, scores of unprepared hikers, lured by initially easy downhill hiking, experience severe illness, injury and death from hiking in the Canyon."
